August
The lead up to the woodland is spectacularly packed with wild flowers and grasses all in different stages of transition. It is not to be missed even though mainly it is a woodland following a burn towards a wonderful waterfall. Open awareness allows you to encounter it all , and not to dismiss what is front of you even if its not within the woodland.
Along the pathway before the woodland there are Hawthorn trees now filling up with berries ready to ripen and one or two wild roses intertwined showing off their plump hips.
The sycamores are loaded with seeds which helicopter into the autumn storms across the woodland . Male catkins have formed and when the leaves become bare you will realise how many Alder trees there are hiding in the summer greenery as its their catkins you notice most. The Elderberries are now ready to ripen too on their beautiful red scaffolding
The woodland is as expected , it has every tone of green and shape imaginable. The flowers have gone now making way for deep lushness keep all those living here hidden and safe. But , if you rummage long enough there are tiny flowers and leaning into curiosity and taking your time to inquire deepens that bond and connects to the healing properties of the woodland.
The Burn is a little low due to the lack of rain but still trickles down over the waterfalls which mark the way towards the main event. Trees arch over and some offering berries to ripen in a sunny spot create a feeling of something quite magical.
Each month has its own character and cadence to follow its energetic form. Slow yourself down , look around you and enjoy its presence.
