Awareness of everyday Kindness
Without mindfulness we can go through our daily lives unaware of everything which surrounds us and especially when our mood is low we only see negative things in our lives and our world is limited. Our lives can become self centred and narrow missing simple acts of kindness which surround us everyday. Each one of us is bombarded with negative media information , social injustice and difficult aspects of our own life. Our attention becomes over focussed on these events rather than being present in our lives and noticing that there are bigger , greater and beautiful things happening which often are just random acts of kindness.
Instead of focussing on our natural tendency of negative and focus on the positive aspects which is radical in changing our brain structure opening up new possibilities of life . The simple core principle of “energy follows focus” mirrors our own feelings of wellbeing. It uncovers those innate wellbeing qualities making our reality lighter and clearer.
Beginning your day with a simple intentionality of being present and noticing simple acts of kindness from people and also your own acts of kindness.
Stating a simple motivation of being happier person in the flow of life.
It may take you time to find a kinder and more content reality , which was always happening before you noticed , but with practice it comes quite freely. Once you are more accustomed to noticing this then add a new layer of just taking a tiny moment to see whether you felt something and where it was in your body. This deepens your knowing yourself more and developing intuition.
Remember this is a learning experiential journey and its OK not to be able to notice your feelings just bring some intention each time to see whether a feeling shows up in your body in over time the felt sense will evolve.
It can be anything : someone smiled at you walking in a street. a colleague made you a drink or said something encouraging. someone thanked you or you thanked someone . you saw someone being kind to someone else. you got some help.
You are developing a felt sense which lightens your daily life. You are connecting to a newer reality of life which is kinder , helpful and more harmonious. There are still challenging aspects of life but it is developing to be skilful on how you chose to respond to those situations.
15 minute exercise
Sit in a relaxed and dignified posture and begin with an intention for the practice , for example : noticing a kinder reality of experience in life , then add a motivation of why you would want this , ie you may want to be happier or lighter in life or just more aware of people being kind to you.
Settle you mind with 2/3 minutes of following your breath and begin to remember a situation when someone was kind to you , if you can remember how it felt and there isnt a right or wrong way for this . Note how it feel right now , are there any sensations within your body.
Have a little notebook and write down what happening. If you recall a feeling. What was your response. what were you thinking when it happened. Write down when you are remembering it what thoughts did it bring up. How is it feeling .
It maybe resistance to the the kindness during or recalling it. Write it down. Being honest with yourself is a good process and remember there is no judgement.
This time instead of kindness towards yourself try and remember any acts of kindness towards someone. What did it feel like and what does it feel like remembering it. What was the reaction to your kindness. etc etc
Remember to cherish and hold onto the memory for a while, whilst sitting with breath and just bathe in the feelings of kindness.
